[...] Then, each page needs to take things in their own direction beyond that. @MKEPanthers and the Milwaukee Facebook page should be dealing with everything game related – starting discussions on the lineup, offense, defense, real x’s and o’s stuff. The @PouncePanther account and Pounce Panther Facebook page should deal with all the cutesy stuff – pictures of Pounce around campus, interacting with fans (although @MKEPanthers can interact too). Social media in the department is a mess and it doesn’t have to be.
Great points Sean. I am not a fan of fan-gating anyway. Just feels a little unlike what you would do to a friend. And being a friend is a bigger key than most of us realize!

I agree Andy, I like the Facebook night & understand the sponsorship component but they way it is executed it looks like you have to like Arizona State Lottery to attend the event (you don't have to). Fan-gating has it's pros & cons but I'm not a fan of fan-gating with sponsors.

I like what Golden State do asking fans to check-in to the fan event with sponsor branding which is more natural for the fans to do.

It is a great way to sell tickets & I'm sure there are fans who attend just for the limited edition T-shirt ;)

Andy,

Beyond CoveritLive that the Clippers, ESPN and many other entities are using, what other tech companies are you seeing sports teams, leagues, athletes and media companies using?

For instance, I saw ESPN recently using Vokle for a new video conferencing chat called #HeatIndexlive.

Thanks Andy for the brief and useful introduction into some necessary facebook rules in. There is still a lot of potential for an effective use of social media by sports teams. Here in Germany we often take a look to the US to learn about new trends in sports business especially concerning the application of social media.
Best Regards from Cologne (Germany)
Michael

Bob, great point. If those two Twitter handles could work together -- wow. I think often times we steer clear of working together because it's harder. But the impact on a consumer could be so much greater!

Andy - the main AD account got it right, but the bball team acct (@HoopsatHarvard) should be working in tandem or better yet leading the charge. No mention of the hashtag or same enthusiasm in their posting strategy.
